when i was in high school, i once did very poorly on an important exam. my father didn’t punish me, but told me one simple sentence “fishing itself is more important than the fish.”
i was a bit unsure hearing that. i know that my father loves fishing. i often saw him release the fish after catching them. and he had told me more than once that he went fishing just because he wanted to feel the rod in his hands as the fish plays with the hook, and to feel the thrill of lifting the fish out of the water. but i could not find out what his words have to do with me.

我认识罗恒同学是在2001年，那时，我曾教过他的英语口语。他在上课的过程中是一个非常活跃的学生。因此，我一下子就注意到了他。在接下来的几年里，我们一直对他精心培养，给他提供各种大赛和锻炼英语口语的机会。他英语能取得今天这样好的成绩，作为他的知道老师，我由衷地为他感到高兴。
罗恒本科是我校机电学院的学生。无论是在专业学习方面还是在英语学习方面，他在院里都是名列前茅。给我留下深刻印象的还是他的个性魅力。他是一个谦虚好学，朴实开朗，勇于进取的青年。在我看来，他对英语的热爱，丰富的知识面，较强的逻辑思维能力以及持之以恒的精神，是他英语取得好成绩的关键。还有最重要的一点就是罗恒非常地热爱英语学习，大学一年级通过英语四级和六级考试，大学二年级以七分的成绩尝试了“雅思”考试。至此，他并没有放松对英语的学习，他对英语的热情比以往更加热烈，他每天听英语新闻，看英语电影，并经常向我借些英语报刊杂志阅读。他对英语的热情一直持续到现在。我相信，会永远！
罗恒是一个知识面比较丰富的学生，这也许和他从小就爱看书的习惯有关。在学习英语的过程中，他也能通过阅读或听英语新闻的方式，不断地累积有用的实事素材，这对他的演讲是十分有益的，他总能够找到合适的例子在演讲或辩论中支持自己的观点。目前，我把他推荐在武汉大学口译对接受口译培训，期间他也担任过一定的口译任务。我相信，这也是他为什么在英语口语比赛中能有很强的实力的原因。

最后我想说的是，持之以恒，永不服输的精神是罗恒最大的特点。其实在大学一年级的时候，罗恒的英语，尤其是口语并不是我学校学生中最优秀的。记得第一次参加湖北省演讲比赛的时候，我们并没有选送他，但他并没有灰心丧气，他主动充当其他选手的陪练。三年过去了，每一次听他讲英语，总能感到他的英语水平有了很大提高。他参加过大大小小的演讲比赛，无论成功还是失败，他都能从中吸取经验，下一次会做的更好。在我看来，罗恒同学已把英语口语比赛当作自己进步的动力和检验英语口语的好机会。我相信罗恒能一直这么走下去，也一定能取得一个又一个的成功！
在我演讲的开始，我想问你们每个人一个问题：你们听说过“goal ball(盲人足球)”这个词吗？如果没有听过，也不要责怪自己，因为很多字典都没有收入这个词。这是残奥会的盲人比赛项目。我们不知道这个词，因为残奥会，残疾人的奥运会，往往被我们忽视。在2004年，在一次电视转播中，我看到6位盲人选手在雅典残奥会盲人足球的决赛努力比赛，他们看不见，所以他们不知道看台几乎是空空荡荡。我看得见，我的心情沉重。
所以，我那时决定了：在2008年，我要做一名志愿者。我最关心的是如何服务那些残疾人运动员以及如何让更多的人来关注残奥会。我坚信他们也应获得我们的注意，我们的掌声。因为我们活在同一个世界，分享同一个梦想。
